Default V8 Pontiac Solstice

I was watching a TV program on the Pontiac Solstice and saw that a place is offering an aftermarket LS2, & LS7 motor install for them.

http://www.mallettcars.com/solstice-conversion.htm

Looked into it and became very intrested.
What is everyone's opinions on this car with that LS2, & LS7 negtive opinions are welcome in this case.
They considered "Tunner/rice"? They look like they seem to be a circut track car but they might not be because all that weight in the front end.

They offer a few engines:

LS2 400hp
LS7 505hp
Built LS2 440rwhp
Turbocharged LS2 540rwhp
Turbocharged LS7 900hp, 750rwhp

Things look super fast!!!

Looks pretty sweet. They claim extensive track testing, good handling, etc. I wouldn't consider this "rice" any more than a Lingenfelter Corvette, for instance.

They've been doing this for awhile now. They're badass IMO. I don't find it rice at all, nor do I see how anyone else could. VERY pricey though. But I'd love to drive one.

I remember hearing about this stuff when the Solstice first came out. I think I remember a 500 hp package from an LS2, but it cost just as much as the car did! Either way, it would be badass to put an engine like that in a car that small. Its like dropping an LT1 in a golf cart.

I prefer the Saturn Sky though, but I bet I could get an LS2 in that thing too.

one of us needs to buy one of these. just so we can get some sort of review. i'm interested for sure. thats hot. i use to think that solstices were just mostly looks. but with an ls2 it would be bothe performance and looks. classy looking car.

You can also do this in a Miata.

Check out:

www.v8roadsters.com
www.zenspeed.com

There is a small but growing people who are putting the LSx engines into these cars. I am one of these people who are planning to buy a car for this purpose.

I took some video of a friend of mine who has a 5.0 mustang engine in is miata. It was loads of fun. Please ignore the lame commentary... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtrORSLzoOk

that conversion is pricey as hell though. for that price i'd rather add a couple more grand for a brand new vette.

Yeah these guys are awesome and located right here in NE Ohio! You should see their Vette packages. I think they were in a Motortrend aftermarket vette competition once and they cleaned house (green slime corvette IIRC?).

The only reason i posted this is because people with Goats and FBs can relate because of Pontiac.

Not me....I think the V8 Solstice is badass, and different. Something like that would definitely be a sleeper, and being smaller and lighter than the vette, I bet it handles better.

It reminds me of a modern interpretation of the Shelby Cobra; great handling little car, with a insanely powerful engine.

If I had the coin for that... I'd probably swap in a heads cam LS1 block into a Sky. The sky just looks meaner.

Oddly enough, I heard the solstice isn't as "lite" as it could be. It's around Z06 territory for weight...

i would love one.

I just wish they were a tad bigger, I am a big guy and I am pretty cramped in the drivers compartment. It would be alright for short around town stuff, but it would really suck for driving on the highway.

Car Craft actually did this swap a number of years back. It was a crate LSx motor rated at 450. With LTs and a 100 shot it ran high 9s. The LSX/T56 combo was actually lighter than what ever iron block 4 cyl it came with. Car weighed under 2500lbs if I remember right.

Just imagen if you gut it, and add lighter everything, that would be one helluva a race car!!!
The turbocharged LS7 having 750rwhp i cant see how you every would get traction, as soon as you hit the boost level your wheels would break free.

I guess its for dragin or someone who wants to have a 750rwhp car that is not pratical at all. lol. I'd still drive it theo!
