Put in Powermaster alternator

Put in Powermaster alternator now the belt squeals over 1,000 rpm, stops when my foot's off the gas edal... is that normal? Shold I assume it's the belt, I didnt change that? There was never anything like this before I swapped to the new alternator. It's a 150 amp unit in there now.
