90s vortec motors are Gen 2.... LSx motors are gen 3... totally different.

i suppose if you mean a '99 half ton truck, then yes... it's an LSx, but seeing that's the only truck of the 90's to sport a Gen 3 motor, i assumed you meant a 350/454 vortec.

^Ok, well he said out of an "02", I was not aware that GM was still producing the Gen 2 motor in 02. I guess the 5.3 motor in my avalanche which has a huge "Vortec" engine cover on it is not an lsx......

yeh.. it's a gen 3.. so maybe 24 lb in that case.


but to your point above.... my S10 has a HUGE vortec cover on it too.. it is a vortec and it's an iron 4.3 V6. GM has called their truck motors vortec since 96. the name vortec is not confined to Gen 3 at all.

Your right, I was saying that vortec did not necessarily make it a 2nd gen either. I was just looking out for ya.....

The Vortec name debuted in 86 on the 4.3. Not sure if they ever put the name in the engine bay, I know in91 or 92 when the 4.3 HO CPI came out, the intake manifold said vortec, looks kinda like a ls1 intake

ahh that's true.. the old CPI does say vortec.

i noticed that you have a Sten ZR2 as well.... how did you get that stepside on there? did you eliminate the flares? i know it's OT.. but do you have pics?

i have an '00 ZR2.. nothing special, some aesthetic mods, t-bar crank, power leather from a blazer... just a DD lame-*** s10
