Top speed on a bone stock LS1???
With the speed limiter moved or disabled, what do you guess think it would be??? I had the WS6 to 170 with only a catback and think there is a small cam in it. I had the 99 slap the speed limiter bone stock which is 161-ish. I know a 3.42 gear(t-56) in 5th tops out at around 185, I know it won't reach that unless it's down hill with the wind pushing ya maybe and a road long enough. I don't know it has me thinking. Has anyone done it or know?

keep in mind, speedometers are only so accurate. I remember reading years ago in a bike magazine, testing the stock speedo's, they were all measuring way on the high side, not even close to accurate. I'm not sure about these cars, but better off to find out with a gps or calibrated radar gun if you know a cop maybe...

I would have a hard time believing one would do 175 stock. In fact, I don't believe it at all. The 2001 Z06's would top out 5th at 171, and they're a good bit more aerodynamically suited to the task. It takes a LOT of power to push an F-Body over the 165 threshold.
I've done a lot of top end "banzai runs" in my day, and you can get up to about 160 without much doing, but after that your car fights for every mile per hour, as aerodynamics really come in to play.

When I was doing my runs I only took rpm and applied it to the gear calculator which you would have to do on a fbody because the speedo only goes to 155 anyway regardless if it's right or wrong.
I already know it can go 170 with some mods without a problem and still could have gone faster, did that 2 weeks ago. Only reason I slowed down was I had missed my exit and got off at the next one.

As far as speedo accuracy, i know mine is dead on. Gps reads 75 at 75 and 110 at 110. Ive only pushed my car to 145 stock, but it had more in it. After the longtubes, 3 inch td exh. and small cam, i know it will push 160, but, i dont know if i trust its stability at those speeds.

I got to 150 really easily bone stock, i wouldnt doubt if someone said they hit 170 on a runway but i dont think you could get past that. with enough power im sure 6th gear could get over 200, wouldnt want to see it though

I have a ctvs and I will never know. I am 46 and 150 doesn't sound good to me anymore. I think 125 to 130 will suffice for me. I just want it to get there fast. Priorites change with age. My mods will be around getting there faster. I don't think 160 sounds good to me without a cage and harness. You younger guys can take care of the top end stuff.

Back when I was crazy I could bounce my WS6 off the speed limiter (162 mph) bone stock. Took a little while to get there. Without the speed limiter it revs out to 167. With the turbos I can barely pull 6th after I top out 5th, but I've only done it once. Made it to 170. Takes a LOT of power up that high to pull anything.
Interesting note, I couldn't hit the speed limiter w/ the T-Tops off.
