Question should I trade T/A for lightning?

I've always wanted a lightning. I was thinking about trading my T/A for a Ford Lightning. Right out the door I have a parts list that would get the truck guaranteed 12's. But If i keep the T/A i was going to get ms4 cam/gears/full exhaust. I already run high 11's in TA so this should get me a daily driven 10 sec car on 150 shot. What would you guys do??

I was a big fan of the Lightnings till i realized what it took to make them really go fast and not just dyno queens...i have a freind that has a lighting with exhaust/CAI/Tune and he raced my buddies stock Infiniti G35 and got waxed from a roll and couldnt hold him off in a 1/4 mile race from a dig...sorry but to me that pathetic....

I think you'd end up regretting that trade. Do you really want a slower car? It's gonna take a lot to make it fast like someone said, and don't forget about them gas prices. If that's what you really want then do it.

Your friend needs to mix and match better mods then. There are TONS of guys in the 12's with light mods. How are they dyno queens? They make 500lbs of torque to the ******* wheels.

stock f-bodies are already 12 second capable (i'm serious, look it up), and good luck getting anywhere near the 10s w/ a DDable truck for anything but and arm and a leg. stay w/ the trans am.

...

on a side note: did you really expect anyone to tell you to make that switch???? this is an LS1 site lol.

Keep the T/A and get the 'L' - best of both worlds. F-bodies are a dime a dozen, but cheaper to mod up for fast - Lightnings are 'unique' and with the right mods and a tuner that knows how to get the mods all sync'd, can get into the mid 11's very easily - the main problem is hooking up all the torque.

I had an 01 L back in the day. Went 12.55@108 on street tires with a few bolt ons. Blew the motor up at the track. The do not have forged rods. Lotsa them have popped motors and are on there 2nd or 3rd. They also get **** gas mileage. If the motor was fully built like the 03-04 termi's, I'd say go for it. But i would never mod one without a built motor. Mine blew up with JLP:cai, tune, 4lb lower, 1lb upper. 4000 miles on the clock. Was fun while it lasted..

keep the ls1

Dont get me wrong. The Lightning is a very fast truck, thats the same decision I was trying to make between my SS or an L. But it also depends on what you need it for? Is the T/A too small as for interior space? Do you need to haul alot of stuff? Take into consideration whats the needs and wants of your choice? Some people find a truck to be practical, and then some dont. Its also the same when it comes down to a car.

I chose the SS because of what was practical enough for me. The L was just too expensive for insurance, MPG is shitty, and the interior build quality isnt as good as you would think. I picked the F-body because it the insurance was much cheaper, MPG was better for me, plus the aerodynamics of a car are much better than any truck. Plus the L is fast but it does have Boost, when the F-bodies are faster N/A. It all comes down to what exactly do you need. But in my opinion keep the LS1, and still smash Ford.

Good luck!

Don't even think about it. You would be pissed at yourself if you made this trade.

If gas isn't a issue get the truck.. Don't look back, they are bad ***. I had one before my camaro and I miss it (was stolen then wrecked)

Your friend is a ******* retard or he wasn't hooking up with his L if a stupid *** g35 beat him.

I went to the track and ran a 13.2 or a 13.4 I can't remember, would have to find my slips. All the truck had was a 4lb pulley (4 psi more than stock) and that was it. Those trucks will run 12's no problem. I had only had it for a week before I went to the track (temp tags still on it).

There is a guy here that is in Columbus.. You give him your truck and 4500. He gets a turbo kit, install, and tunes. Gives you the truck back. He was running 10's with slicks. Stock block, stock everything other than turbo. Those trucks are ******* amazing.. Also, every one can use the utility of a truck

Lightning's in my opinion blow camaros out of the water. They might be slower/faster but they are much more rare and hell, a truck hauling ***** like that is bad ***. They drive like a car too pretty much.

My personal opinion, test drive the lightning. If you like it better than your TA trade.

*** I think I got 12-15 mpg with my lightning as an average.. But the insurance was hella cheaper on the truck than the camaro (unlike what the guy above said)***

If you want a Lightning you won't be dissapointed. They are bad *** trucks. My cousin has one and I love driving it. I personally wouldn't trade my SS for one, but I'd love to have one along side it. Just keep in mind the T/A will be easier to make quicker once you get below low 12's. And the Lightnings are bricks past 110mph.

driving had nothing to do with it...he got beat from a roll and won from a dig...G35 driver couldnt hook it up in the 1/4 and the lightning did so he won...the roll race was from 35-100 and the G35 pulled by about 1/12 cars....takes the driver mod out of it for an automatic from a roll...shifting and traction wasnt a factor for the lightning...G35 driver is a hell of a driver and I asked him today and he has a CAI and exhaust on the G35 and he got beat from a dig but less than a car so i was a little off on the story but still it proves my point

Ive recently test drove a 02 L and it wasnt as fast compared to an SS. But honestly in my local area Ive seen and spotted many L's and only spotted one other SS than my own.
