Just Wondering

Isn't your fuel pump in the tank? Remember I don't know much and many of my similar post have been locked. Doesn't gas keep a fuel pump cool. Don't electric items last longer cool? Have you ever thought about rust and dirt in a non plastic fuel tank? If the fuel low light comes on aren't you sucking from the bottom of the tank? Perhaps pulling dirt into and injector, filter, etc.
I guess the correct answer would be it depends. If the light comes on during a race with someone because they reved on you, not long. If the light comes on at the top of a 10 mile down hill grade. Or if you're starting up that 10 mile up hill. The light has come on because the vehicle has noticed you have previously ignored the little gizmo that shows fuel in the tank. In the old days there was no such thing. The funny part is we were known to take gas from setting cars when it was under .30 per gal.

I can see several reasons for this not to happen.

^lol agreed.
Jakes Dad, foreign particles wont make it past the fuel filter. no need to worry about anything contaminating the engine from the fuel tank.
OP, i think its around 2 gallons. if you run completly out of fuel once or twice you wont have to worry, thats ussually not enough to damage the pump.

It's a 16.8 gallon tank, right?
If so, I usually have over 3 gallons left when the light comes on. Usually I'll fill it before the light, but every once in a while I try to stretch it out. Usually if I've been driving with the light on for a bit it'll take about 13.2 gallons to fill it up.

i run it down to the bone all the time. realistically, i've driven 30 miles (mixed city and highway) with my low fuel light on, and i'm and a4!!! i've never run dry (knock on wood), hell i've run it till i was one needle width below the empty hash.
if you're really worried, drop some seafoam in the tnak and change your fuel filter every 10k....done and done.

I have driven pretttttty far on "E" with the check gauges light on, it sucks when your coming home from 3 hours away and dont notice your running low on gas, until your in the middle of no where at 11pm. Also I usually keep my car with no more than 1/4 tank. Its been filled once ever since Ive had it, and thats when I drove 3 hours away the time I ran a far distance on E.
