How to tell difference between LS1 and LS6 intake?
My car is a 2001....but looks like it was actually made in the factory in 2000. I do not have an EGR on my car.
Was just reading a magazine today, saw a stock dyno of a 2000 TA, same #'s as mine stock....figure with the other one having the LS1 intake, woulda been lower #. Both dyno's were dynojets.

If the sticker says 2001, you have an ls6 intake, since you don't have EGR, you also have an ls6 intake. The reason why they dyne the same is because in 01+ they used slight smaller cams, but used better exhaust manifolds,ls6 intake, etc

ls6 intakes do not have egr, so if yours doesnt have egr then it should be an ls6 intake. Also, dyno numbers will differ from dynojet to dynojet so dont worry. For instance my camed 98 z28 was dynoed on a very conservative dyno and I only put down 375 rwhp however there were some other local guys with cars claiming 390-400 rwhp that I was able to edge out racing so dont put too much emphasis on the numbers. Track results are the best judge of power. Sounds like you have a really nice trans am though!

Is that even posible? I thought all LS1 intakes had EGR privisions on years 98-00..... and that in 01-02 all were LS6 intakes......

ok don`t meen to thread highjack or anything but i got a quick ? If 98-00 LSx`s dyno the same amount of hp as 01-02`s then why do people on here always tell other people in search of an f-body to get the 01-02`s just because of the intake difference. So in theory wouldn`t you wanna get a 98-00 LSx f-bod and just switch the intakes out seens as how the cam is bigger in the older ones? Because honestly isn`t it easier to change a intake rather than a cam. Somebody tell me if you think i`m wrong here.

Over the years the LS1 block has been out, GM has made changes to the blocks making them stronger, have better oiling, and other things like that. Thus making the 01-02 blocks the most sought after of the LS1.
Here is a thread talking about the differences...

Booo EGR! I have it and I'm debating on taking it out.....depending on how strict Arizona smog is . I'm moving there hopefully in Sept.
As said before check the number or the bottom of the intake to see if it's flat or curved.
Also there are EGR LS6 intakes, SLP made them....

98's had the worst flowing heads of all years. As others have mentioned the cams were scaled down in size/aggresiveness as the years progressed but they in turn recieved better flowing heads and in 01-02 a better flowing intake manifold. Just as an example the cam in my car made 20+ rwhp more in a car with the same bolt ons and performance mods. My camaro was a 98 and the one that outperformed my car was an 02. Only difference was the stock cylinder heads on each vehicle and the results show the difference in flow, especially with larger cams.

Well what i was really trying to say is wouldn`t it be easier and cheaper to upgrade a 98-00 just because it already has the bigger cam, seens as how well ive never done a cam swap so i don`t know how pricey or how much time it takes. Or do the 2 different cams actually make a big difference i guess is what i`m really trying to ask.
