Default cam and torque converter HELP

ok guys i need some help please. I have a 99 ls1 i got a cam(222/224 112 lsa) from a friend of mine that has never been used i want to put it in my car, im pretty mechanically inclined so it dose not seem to be that hard. Now down to business. i was always told that i have to put a torque converter in when you do a cam in an auto drive car. what do you guys think, the car is a street strip car and occasionaly a daily a driver.

Sounds like the CC XR275 cam. A 222/224 cam should be borderline ok for the street w/o more stall. For the strip extra stall will help. The best way to know what stall you need is to contact the cam's manufacturer for advice. Given that, your 222/224 cam's "advertised" duration will probably be in the 270 to 280 range. In an LS1, that kind of duration should fall into the 2200-2400 stall range (see CC's link below, scroll to bottom of page).

u might be able to get away with not doing a stall since the cam isnt big. but you will benefit more from the stall than the cam. the stall should be every auto owners first mod!

And you'll benefit more from the cam if you have a stall. You need the stall to put the cam in its powerband. It will drive around without a stall but it won't be much faster with a cam unless you put a stall in it too.

I'd do a VIG3200 or a SS3600.

dont waste your time unless your going to put a stall in the car. The car will not feel very fast without the stall. My buddie put AFR heads on his car with that cam with a stock TC and i raced him when i was stock and her barley beat me. Plus his transmission blew soon after.

Cams shouldn't be your priority now, a stall should.

But if you had to have a mix of street/strip, TR 224 isn't bad if I recall correctly, but its just your average mid sized cam.

I would stall it for sure, makes a world of a difference and you dont sacrifice any drivability like everyone else seems to think. Id go with a 2500-3000 stall with that cam
