go to the hybrid section and you will get a better response there. but from what i hear its a straight drop in but your going to need a ,wireing<--spell check) harness for the ls1 or something like that.

try to find a dropout with PCM and harness. all you would need to do is drop your engine with the K member and put the LS1 with its K member in.

really i would just build up the lt1 thats a lot of trouble considering the power diff is not very much unless you just like to say you did it which is cool but yeah just my opinion lt1's are also great engines(-the opti spark) and cheaper parts.

i like the lt1 but i hate the dam opti spark they give me so much problems other than that my freinds is selling me a lt1 and a transmission but i really dont trust the guy though cause i have a 383 in it and he says its fubard but then a guy looked at it and said there is nothing wrong with this car all it needs is a tranny and a optispark. so i dont know who to trust anymore iv got fubard over alote by my friends and if i have to buy a new motor i want to do a newer motor or can you buy a lt1 383 with a tranny with it all i have is a thousand dollars to spend.

If you keep the LT1 make the investment of the MSD opti for $500 so you dont have to worry about it anymore. As for the swap...do a search I researched it not long ago and found loads of info on here regarding all the needed parts.

You wont get a ls1 swap for that much, you'd be looking at 3k minimum (seen a few done for 2500, but got really lucky), if you did all the work your self. also your posts are REALLY hard to read. I know I have terrible grammar, but damn.

I would pay the extra cash and geth the ls1. I would say it has a better aftermarket support. All my LT-1 buddies have problems, but it could just be there cars.

That being said you can make a LT1 based engine just as fast

Why doesn't anyone just buy an LS1 and put LT1 body panels on it?

I still think the LT1 T/A's look waaaaaaay cleaner.

How much have you thought about spending on the LS1 car? If you can only spend a few grand, sure, the car might have some issues and/or 100K+ miles, but I think buying one and maybe fixing it up a bit is still going to cause you less hassles than doing the LT1 to LS1 swap.

I've seen LS1's with the harness go on this site for 1500-3K, if that and a k-member is all you need I would definately go that route.

If it's the opti you're concerned about, they make kits that retrofit LS1 style coil packs to LT1's.GMHTP used it on one of their project cars.
Anyway..I don't think it would really be worth it to ditch the LT1..
If you had an old worn out V6..then maybe so..Since you can pick them up so cheap & all that stuff gets replaced anyway.
An LT1 can be made to run really well..The one thing an LT1 guy can't do is exceed 393 (I think) cubic inches( most are 383's)...But good heads & effective power adders are plentiful & well sorted out.

If you only have 1k to spend, don't bother looking into doing an LSx swap. You'll need a k-member,PCM and wiring harness, may need diff trans parts to bolt up to the motor (i know m6 does), and you'll need the LS1 steering setup (can't think of the technical name).

I think it would be a big waste of money to swap an LS1 into an LT1 car, especially since you are on a budget. Either mod it more or sell it and buy an LS1 car. The optispark is NOT that big of a deal
