Default miles per tank...

I've been sitting here thinking about it and I'm scratching my head.

When I had my 01 SS A4, same options as my 02 SS (except the 01 had chrome Zr1s and a hardtop, 02 has t-tops and chrome Z06/black Zr1s depending on mood) I was getting about 300 miles per tank if not a little more.

Sold that, got a Mustang, another Mustang, then a v6 camaro and now another SS. Going through 3 cars I kinda forgot how the milage was in that car.

So now with THIS SS I was getting 220-250 miles out of the tank before the gas light comes on. That's like ~16 mpg.

I drive mostly freeway, don't get into the throttle at ALL, and only use the A/C when I need it. t-tops stay on all the time unless I'm driving city and I use the same gas as I always have.

Firstly - I was reading a thread about filling up at the pumps which suggested using the slowest speed setting, started trying that and I'm getting ~290-300 (at most 330 out of a tank) with the same driving habits I always have. Okay I'm cool with that. That's between 18.5 and roughly 21 MPG.

Secondly - I really don't drive the car hard. I drive to work and back, and I might be on surface streets for 5-6 miles of my whole 20 mile trip. I might make a couple 1-2nd gear blasts just messing around per tank. Hell I even drive only at night (work in a club) so I'm not out during the hottest parts of the day. I just don't get it.

My question is how many miles per tank are you guys seeing? How in the hell are some people getting 25-29 MPG on the freeway? What am I doing wrong lol.

No this isn't a rant about gas prices, I couldn't give a **** less about that - I'm going to fill the car up regardless of how much it costs but I'm just wondering why I'm not getting the mileage I should.

Car has new plugs, wires, oil is changed regularly etc.

Another "how much gas mileage" thread. There are about a dozen threads in this and Newbie forums with people stating their mileage. Try searching and you should get lots of results. BTW, I only average about 18mpg with A4.

I just searched "Miles per tank" and got ZERO results. Thanks. I'm not asking for miles per gallon, I'm asking miles per tank.

I filled up my tank this morning.....Went 188 miles and put in 9.05 gallons which is 20.77 MPG. 75% HWY 25% city. I have a 00 WS6 A4. I always try to fill up when I'm around a 1/4 tank to help prolong the life of my fuel pump.

humm, i drive about 22 miles round trip to work and I would say that most of that trip is interstate. I just got my plugs and headers and a good tune on my car and I get around 250 miles until the light comes on? NOt sure I understand why mine, like yours only gets 18 miles a gallon no matter what I do

Well, if you know the MPG then you know the miles per tank, unless you failed math class.

i get 250 miles on a tank but that is with me driving fast. All depends of how you drive and you'll never have a consistent miles per tank

I've been wondering this too, i get roughly 260 a tank, that's guesstimating because i never empty it but the gas light comes on at about 230 miles. and I'm assuming that's when the tank is down to two gallons, because it's usually about 13.xx gallons per fillup. Maybe all these guys speaking of high twenties are full of it,

Maybe you should take your own advice. Where did you post your answer to the OP's thread or did you just come in to be an ***? If you read the rest of my post you will see that I gave my mileage and that by searching he would get lots of results.

it all depends on how u drive it...if ur an m6 like me i shift at or under 2k, and tht gets me great mileage, mid 20's on highway at around 70-80 mph...theres people on here whos pushing 400+ hp and get 20's....it all comes down to how u drive the car

Also remember that 98's will most likely get less per tank because of the smaller tank.

hrm, my problem must be the A4. i drive it very conservatively due to the fact that the police around here gain most of their revenue from traffic tickets. they'll get you for anything

25-29 is pretty much 100% 4th gear in a A4 car or 100% 6th gear in a M6 car. you'll only really get that kind of mileage on long trips where you'll use the whole tank at one time.
