Lightbulb water draining down the hatch

hey people, curiosity got the best of me. Just a show of replies, when it rains or when you wash your cars does the water drain off the side of the hatch and onto the panel where the speaker is?

Yeah, you need to put some goop under the rubber weatherseal that goes around the one corner of the hatch. Mine did that too, driver's side. I used some black gasket sealant goo between the metal body and the weatherstrip. Never leaked again.

well i forgot to add the important part. when you open the hatch and you have water beaded on the hatch glass and when it runs off does it run into the hatch area where the speaker is?

In my case it always happens like you say. When is really wet on the outside and you open fastly the hatch it gets water over the rear panels. The solution? Open it up slowly controlling the water so it dont get inside.

I have to slightly open it, wait for 10 seconds, and then open the hatch.

Unless you are talking about water flooding the bottom of the floor pan. I have that when it rains very very hard.

There was a TSB for water leaking in through the hatch: "00-08-57-004 DEC 00 Rear Hatch - Water Runs Out of Corners" I no longer have the text or the subscription to retrieve it, but the fix involved using 3M body sealant to re-seal some gaps in the body work inside the gutter under the hatch, which can allow water to get in where it should not be.
