I think If you use good oil and change it about 3000-5000 miles either is fine.

I use conventional Castrol GTX 10w30 in my LQ4 2500HD and change it every 4500 miles.

I use synthetic Redline 10w30 in my LS1 and change it once a year....I drive it less than 3000 miles a year so once a year is fine for synthetic.

That is great info! I'll probably be changing my oil type after reading that. It makes sense now that my rod bearing first started making noise in the morning back in March.

Synthetic offers better protection. Period. Regardless of how often you change your oil.

I'd say Mobil 1 synthetic has been pretty good for my car (see sig).

Rotella 15-40 if you want to quiet something up(yes, it really will make a difference).

But, in the f-body Valvoline 10-30 conventional only.

I don't understand why people don't use full syn. It has it from the factory at least in the Corvette, which is the same engine for a few years.

they put that in corvettes so you fell special and think you got something special but, it's the same motor thats in the trans am & camaro's
so why not put it in them as well.

same reason they rate the corvettes that it has more hp then the trans am & camaro's, so the owners of the corvettes feel like they got more but in reality it's the same. maybe a few more pony because of exhaust but same motor.

Same dudes who think it's ok to run 87 or 89 octane in an LS-1. I mean 87 or 89 "WORKS," just like conventional oil, right?

one of the main reasons people use synthetic is pretty simple: synthetic contains no fossil fuels/oils, so when/if the oil begins to burn, it wont chemically break down and cause sludge. (resulting in wear, and loss of power) synthetic is known for providing a lot more protection and reducing wear. it's not really a life or death decision, just your preference.
