Default My first SES code: Guessing it's the catalytic convertor.

So my SES light came on today. The car runs and drives as normal as ever. I am guessing it's the cat only because my one cat went bad about 7 months ago and was replaced under GM's warranty.

Now my only question is will GM still replace the cat for me? Since then I got a new cat back and a new y pipe. The Y-pipe is the SLP one for stock manifolds so it fits right on up to the cats.

Go to an auto zone/ advance store and get them to read the code for you for free. It may be something else and knowledge is best when going into a dealership, if you chose that route. It could be a 02 sensor since the cat went bad.

Thanks for the advice. I have an autozone a little ways away, but an advanced auto parts real close by. Do they read codes for free as well?

It all depends on GM's parts warranty and if it is the same cat.

Well I checked my gas cap and it seemed to be loose. I clicked it n a few notches then 10-15 miles later the light went away. Could that code have been thrown since the cap was loose? Air in the fuel line?

Maybe, a loose gas cap will throw an EVAP code.
