Default Oil pressure and Mobil1 5W30?

So my oil pressure seems low. (see other post) I have not gotten a chance to hook up a mechanical gauge.

Some guys seem to mention that Mobil 1 5W30 is a very thin oil. Especially on a motor with over 100k.

What do you guys think?

it depends what the motor has been through, for example i use 5w30 M1 and i have 88k but my oil pressure is always high. if u are going to step up go to 10w-30 and see how u like that if u still think its to low look for 10w-40. the 10-40 for sure should cure the problem

Pressure isn't what lubes the engine anyway, its the oil flow. If you're reading pressure, you are getting flow.

40 psi at cold start-up and 40 psi while cruising....is perfect, with Mobil 1 at that weight.

Sounds good! So maybe Mobil1 10w40 or something else?

Yeah, do that. 10/40 is better than 5/30 for sure.

His oil pressure is perfect at cold start and at cruise. No worries. At idle after its warmed up, thats exactly the oil pressure he should have with 5w30 Mobil 1.

......going to try and get it done tomorrow.

Yeah, do that. 10/40 is better than 5/30 for sure
I wish I would have known that the 5w30 is too thin!

Thanks for the advice!

It might help a little bit at idle after your warmed up, might not. Idle oil pressure isn't important though (unless its zero of course), under acceleration, cruising and cold start-up is when you need good pressure, and yours is perfect at 40 psi.

Thats about right, you have 10 psi more than he does. Cold start-up on LSx engines vary from 35-60 psi. I have right at 60 psi on cold start, but I use 20w50.

Cold start with mobil 1 5w30 was just slightly over 40. While driving around town, at roughly 1500 RPM gauge shows 35-38ish.

Getting the oil changed to 10w40 later today............

That is 100% perfect oil pressure readings.

You might see higher cold start up pressure, but cruising around pressure will probably be the same....WHICH IS ALREADY PERFECT!!!!!

Use reguklar oil, 20w50. You'll love it and so will your engine.

Why you use Moble 1 I have no Idea. I bet you use a Fram filter too. Do a bit of looking and you will see that Moble 1 is living off hte rep from long ago. There are alot better oils. It is thin with poor protection for what you pay for.

Apparently Mobil1 5W30 is a little light for a higher millage LT1. I didn't know that. I did some checking and have now changed my opinion.........

Actually, I had a Mobil1 filter oil filter.

I'd go 0W-40 or 5W-40 well before I went with a 10W-40. Winter is coming. You don't want a 10W oil in winter. Hell, I don't want a 10W ever. 0W's and 5W's provide lubrication to the motor faster during startup and protect better at cold temperatures.

My T/A will be in storage soon, so no winter driving for me.

...just got it changed. I went with 10w40 and a K&N Oil Filter. Going to drive it to work tonight and see how it responds.
