Default a/c advice needed

Hey guys, yesterday, my A/C started blowing warmer than normal, so I took it in to have it inspected. The shop says that the compressor is toast. They seem to think that the shaft broke inside and is just flapping around in there. Here is the quote they gave me. Does it seem reasonable, too high, or a good deal?

compressor (reman) $485
orifice tube $ 7
hose assembly $170
labor (compressor) $90
labor (replace drier) $54
recharge $126
2 lbs r134a $16

They also said do not run the air (obviously) but they also said to drive the car as little as possible. Thanks guys!

I went to my local Pontiac dealership when my factory stock compressor took a **** on my 1998 WS6. I suggest you do the same.

The entire job cost me $800. Its been ice cold since they did it two years ago. Brand new A/C Delco factory compressor.

Good thing though, it comes with a 100% LIFETIME parts and labor warranty. I will never have to pay for A/C repairs again, its covered as long as I own the car.

Some things are better to do at the dealership. You're probably getting a 90-day warranty at a regular shop, right?

they offered a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. $800 seems low for being a dealership, the shop said that just the compressor at the dealer was $1000. this blows (no pun intended) because the car is amost 100% except for a few very small things, and then this happens!

Try another shop. Thats way too high for a reman compressor.

Here are two observations that tell me this shop is trying to screw you around.
1. $1000 for the comp at a dealer (so you better jump on their "deal")
2. Don't drive it much like this (now that might create an inconvenience for you--better get it done asap)
You can remove the belt, and for the sake of arguement the whole compressor and drive it forever.

Where do you live? The dealership down here is just about the only dealership that isn't full of rip-off scumbags. $1,000 is pathetic, they do not cost that much. They are more like $500 normally from a dealership. I think they gave me mine for about $450.00. They took all of 3 hours to install mine and whatever else they did, thats it. Plus if you happen to live in South Florida, I can give you a $10% off everything card, it only works at this dealership.

Even here, www.rockauto.com a BRAND NEW in the box A/C Delco A/C compressor (NOT a remanufactured one) is $493.00 Part # 1520730

Ramaned compressors are about $300-$400. You can also buy those from rockauto.com.
