Default Fuel pump went out on my friends 3rd gen

My friends fuel pump in his 3rd gen Camaro (1988 v8 auto) went out. If I recall isn't there a access panel you can cut in the hatch area metal to gain access to the fuel tank and get to the fuel pump? Any and all information on this would be greatly appreciated especially pictures. Thanks

You could cut your own hole in the trunk and get it out, I always drop the rear and pull the tank out, I don't like cutting my car up. If he doesn't mind remove the carpet and cut the body.

Ugh... this gives me shivers thinking about it. It was such a PITA getting the tank out of my '84 Camaro. Dropped the rear AND exhaust to get to it... I bent the filler neck putting the new tank back in and it would never allow me to leave a fuel tank pump nozzle in the auto position. It would always trick it into thinking it was full and shut it off and I would have to stand there, **** the nozzle and hold it the entire time. Haha

Good luck with this venture either way you go about it. Get a fuel cell

My wife and I replaced the fuel pump in our 1987 camaro last year. We knew nothing about cars and did it together along with a chilton manual in about 4 hours. Wasn't that bad. But wouldn't wanna do it again! LOL
