Default Red LED door light

I have a 2001 WS6 and my passenger LED light is out. It is the one that shines on the window and lock buttons. How hard is that to fix and it is worth the trouble?

Its not hard at all to replace. Its actually a bulb, not an led. All you have to do is remove the bezel around the handle and its right there. Just a heads up though, you will prob have to break the bulb and pull it out by the filament. Thats the only way mine would come out. If you pick up a red led to replace it, it will put off a lot more light. Its actually a useful light in my TA now!

The socket locks in to the bezel. The bulb is then a bitch to get out of the socket because its so small and slick.

Here's a trick -> Get a 2" small piece of duct tape and tape it to the two ends to the bulb so it folds on itself at the top. This will give you a "tab" to pull on to get the bulb out of the socket.

I have never removed them successfully... I always break them then pull the filament with small pliers.

I have to replace one of mine too. Anyone know what size bulb it is? Also... good idea with the duct tape. I'll have to give that a try.

I Just attempted this with the duct tape and couldn't get the tape to stick to the bulb. It would just slide right off. I then tried with some cloth and pliers which eventually just broke the bulb. Next I tried to pull it out by the filament...well I got the filament alright. However the base of the bulb is still very much attached to the car.

Anyone have any suggestions at this point aside from just cutting off the socket? All that's left of the bulb is the very base of it, there is nothing else to grab onto with pliers.

Nevermind, I decided to go back out to the car with an ice pick and managed to chip away enough of the base of the bulb to "square it off" if you will. I was able to make enough room around the perimeter of the bulb to fit a pair of needle nose pliers down and rip the damn thing out. All is good in the world once again...

I've got the bulbs and I'm going to be doing this to the driver's side in the next day or so as soon as family clears out from Thanksgiving. I hope she doesn't shatter on me and leave the base down inside. Sounds like a pain to deal with. I'm going to attempt the duct tape tab method. Let you all know how it goes...
