Default low alternator ampage

Just replace my battery and alternator and I am only reading 10 to 11 amp on my gauge. I also recharged my battery overnight and it is still at 10 to 11 amps which is in the red. Has anybody had this issue and what did you do to fix it. I also changed the alternator wire when I put my forged short block in so I don't think it's that, plus I am holding a minimal charge. Could it a weak alternator or battery?

Not sure, the gauge in the car is at 10 to 11.

Get an actual voltmeter & read voltage right at the battery. That gauge could be fooling you.

Your battery should read between 12 - 12.5 volts (even if it's bad), so I just think your gauge is off.

I had it checked with a volt meter and at the battery it was reading 12 volts but it would dip down to 7 volts at times and then come back to 12, I charged the battery over night but it didn't change anything, It may be the gauge.

Forget the gauge for a second. The reading on the battery is REAL. If you're losing voltage, get your battery & alternator checked at AutoZone. If that tests good, start looking for corroded connections or shorts.

The reason I had to change the alternater was the power steering pump was leaking power steering fluid onto the alternater and killed it. When I changed the alternater I noticed some power steering fluid on the red wire connection, can that be causing the abnormal reading and would cleaning it with some brake cleaner help? The connection seemed like it had alot of fluid on it and the alternator was soaked with it.
