Default powerstering issues?

I've gone threw 2 pumps in three weeks? I've replaced the oem ps cooler, resivor, lines, everything. First time the pump overheated and started dripping coolant. Second time it just started Squeaking horribly. I cant figure out what the deal is. Theres plenty of fluid in there.

Check the cooler lines that go into the radiator hose.

If they are leaking, you'll get coolant in the PS fluid and PS fluid in the cooling system.

Coolant is pretty much an anti-lubricant, which would explain why the pumps keep failing. I'd check that out first.

So you've only bought one pump so far if I read that right...?

It's possible that you got a PS pump with a bad pulley out of the box.

Its possible you got a bad remanufactured pump. It happens. I would try another pump, maybe from another store and see if it happens again.

Is it possible for metal to contaminate the PS system?

The system has to be free of air.

And are you 100% positive it's the PS pump?

Just like bleeding brakes... open the line somewhere, let it bubble out, and keep refilling as needed.

Also, is it squealing (like the belt is loose) or is it whining (like the PS fluid is low)?

Squealing like its a belt issue. theres plenty of powersteering fluid in there. Idk if the pulleys on far enough? and its putting to much pressure on the ps shaft? Thus causing hte squeal? The squeal is def. coming from the ps pump. Its loud. And very annoying! So just unplug one of the lines from the resivor. let it pore out and just plug it back in and its bleed?

Well, I think it's a belt issue now. Did you replace the belt too?

And is the pulley size on the new PS pump bigger than the original one?

From reading your post, the belt is the only thing you haven't replaced. How long's it been on there?

And if the new PS pulley is a different size, the belt is too tight or too loose, causing it to "pull" the pulley, or "slip" on the pulley; which is probably causing the squealing. If you have some belt dressing, spray some on that pulley just to see if it stops the noise - before you go buying belts and what not.

its brand new aswell. All this orignially started when i was driving my belt came off. I looked and noticed there was alot of play in the powersteering pulley area. got a new power steering bracket. pulley. pump. oem cooler. And here we stand. Its so frustraighting i've been without the car for a few weeks. And im actually trying to sell it. But i need to get this squealing fixed!

I hate to tell you I'm out of ideas, but...

The only thing I can say is if the belt's tight like you said, you may have it routed wrong OR it's the wrong size belt. I really don't believe your PS pump is bad. It HAS to be a belt issue because it's squealing, not whining.

Check the ribs on the crank pulley itself - it may have burned some rubber off the belt, and caused it to "cake" up on the ribs, making the belt slip.

You can also eliminate the PS pulley as a problem:

take the belt off & spin it by hand. If it doesn't squeak, then the pulley's fine.

Its not the belt squeaking its the powersteering pump. I guess you could call it a whining. But its more or less a squeaking sound. Thats y im worried that maybe the pulleys not on all the way? And putting stress on the shaft of the pump causing it to squeal? Im' absolutly lost as to what the problem is.

Well, I'm out of ideas, as well as awakeness for now. Maybe it's the color of the car. Try painting it blue.

By the way, we both have red Firehawks.

I'll check back tomorrow.
