Default Sweeping Gauges

This just started happening, the past couple days. At WOT, car loses power, the gauges sweep, like i just turned the key into the on position, after gauges sweep, car is back to life. Any ideas?

Is it a '99 and doing it on start-up too, along with the trip odometer resetting to zero?

Sorry i didn't give more details.

It's a 2000, no it's not doing it on startup. Haven't noticed the odometer going to 0

i seem to recall this happening to someone on here, two different times

one time it was the alternator was bad, and another was the wire on the back of the alternator was dirty/disconnected, as were the battery terminals

check those connections first and clean them good and see if the problem is still there

it may be a bad battery, or an alternator that is about to go out.. but can also be bad wiring somewhere or a bad ground

A long short, but try checking out the Positive terminal post on the DRIVERS side of the engine bay.

Sometimes that nut can back its way off causing the wires attached there to rub, friction, heat up and cause wierd electrical problems...ask me how I know. :-)

i checked all the connections on the drivers side... they were all good.

Any other ideas?

How many "grounds" does there have to be ? I've heard both sides of the block, and both heads have to be grounded. Can these areas share the same ground ?

Well since it just started with the new parts its more than likely related. If you say you checked all the connections and they are tight then I would say its probably the alternator. Go have it tested and see what they say.

It doesn't matter if it is brand new, you can receive bad parts from any parts store. How do you know it is good?

Can i just install a new ground at the front of the head to test it out? Does each head, have to have it's own ground? Do these grounds goto the battery of the frame, or body?

There is a Ground wire up above the starter...dont miss that one when checking all your grounds. Since the starter was also changed out, its possible that ground got knocked around.
