Yep, forget belt dressings, just replace the belts. If they're making noise, or show any cracks, then it's time for new ones anyway.

While youve got the belt off you might as well do this.

Had a squeak/chirp that would be noticeable during idle. Not very loud, but it was like a ticking sound almost. I used the wd40 method... jebus... got some on the belt and it squeaked badly shortly after. It was embarrassing pulling up to pump gas or stop somewhere. It would squeak when idle - ac compressor came on - dead stop in drive or reverse. When driving around, the squeak wasn't heard. So, I replaced the accessory belt(it was really bad, cracked all around) with a Gatorback belt. Turned on the car, still did it. Took off the pulleys and repacked them. The one that takes the T-50, came off easily with the help of a small pipe. Put them all back and went to buy a Gatorback AC belt. Since the AC belt was already in terrible shape, figured that was the issue for the squeaks.
I put everything in place, turned on the car and listened for any sounds. NOTHING. Revved a few times, turned on the AC, put it in drive and reverse to see if any load made it squeak. Problem gone.
Was it the pulleys? or AC belt? Dont know, but doing those two fixed the issue.
The pulleys like others on here, were about empty on grease.
Although, now when going really slow to turn into a street. There's a very light hum as I turn. Possibly power steering not used to the new belt?

I think grease from your pullies is conditioning ur belt and predict a return of the noise - i have a thread all about this - when it does - get a fact GM belt (while u still can) and itll never happen again!

Also, the grease from the pulleys doesnt even come close to getting on the belt if you dont over pack the bearings.
