Default Leak in Airbox Lid

Today I opened up my stock airbox to check my filter and found that the rubber piece connecting the lid to the resonator/silencer had become warped. It did not seal correctly to the lid and could be allowing air to leak in after the filter. I am wondering if this is a problem, considering I live in dusty Tucson.

I changed the oil 1700 miles ago and did not notice any grit in it, nor have I noticed any dust in the intake previously. There is now a bit of dust on the top of the filter and a very fine film of it inside the air silencer.

I cleaned all the parts and ghetto-sealed the potential leak. SLP lid is already in the mail, which will replace the damaged piece. Should I be worried about damage to my engine? Should I go ahead and change the oil to be safe?
