Default A/C cabin control question....fan motor resistors

My step fathers parents...in their 90's...have a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire. I assume they are the same fan motors and selector switches as our F-Body's.

They do not have #1 or #2 fan speeds, fan does not turn on. But #3 and #4 fan speeds work fine.

What can I do for them to fix it? Does it simply need a totally new fan switch?

Thanks

spray some wd-40 in the switch and wiggle it around a bit

i have an old car that sits 99% of the time and had a similar problem (mine only worked on high)

but that fixed my problem

Almost certainly the blower motor resistor. It's probably behind the glove box.

blower motor resistor should only work on high if it is bad.

I think I've heard of them losing one speed at a time.
