Default Headlights keep blowing

I've been dealing with this for at least 6 months now and am not sure what the problem is. My headlights will alternate burning out on pretty much a monthly basis. They never both go out, one month it's the passenger side and then the drivers side follows a month later. All other lights work fine. Any ideas on this?

I would check to make sure that the proper fuse is installed and not some tin foil, it also could be a grounding issue.

Electrical is not really my strong suit. Could I possible install a lower amp fuse so that would blow next time and not my lights, or is this a dumb idea? I have no idea how I'd even go about tracking down a grounding issue. I do have a multimeter and an electrical engineer friend...maybe I'll ask him.
