Default Rotor mess?

I swapped out my brake pads with Hawks a few weeks ago. Now, the front rotors have a round ring that go around. Here is a photo. I think I should also mention that I replaced these rotors last year. I got them from the auto store. They were cheap, like $40 for the pair.

Bad rotors?

From what it looks like the brake pad is bad. It doesn't appear to making contact with the rotor.

Unless the pads are built that way, I open it back up to see what's going on.

Damn. They are new HAWK pads. I'll check them out when I get a chance.

Alright, I check the pads. The outer ones, are shiny, but in the middle, there is a strip of roughness, as seen on the rotor. Is this normal break in for these pads?

I haven't purchased that brand, but the other side isn't doing it, and I'd bet the two on the other corner aren't doing it. Doesn't sound correct to me.

Take a long, hard look around. Find the absolute root cause (pad? disc? foreign body? pad compound forming error?) and decide from there. Or, just take it back and get another set.

Haha, I just realized what I posted made no sense. The pad is smooth, except down the middlle, there is a strip of roughness. The back brakes are not doing this. But I removed the pads last night, regreased the pins and whatnot, and bled the brakes. I will take it for a spin tonight and see if there is any change. If not, I'm going to contact HAWKS.

If I had to guess I would say either the pads arent formed right, or there is something on them preventing them from touching. The pistons are obviously pushing out because of the even wear above and below the middle ridge. I doubt its a defect in the rotors, because the ring is so uniform (at least from the pic). Just my thoughts, but definitely take the pads out and see if theyre level across the surface of the pad, if theyre seated right, etc.

I reseated them. They seem even, except the middle being rough. I didn't get a chance last night to drive car to see if anything I did helped.
