Default Is my window motor about to die?

My driverside window will only go down/up about an inch every minute, but the weird thing is that this only happens in hot weather...what I mean is that in the morning or in cool/cloudy days it will go up/down just fine, but after it has been sitting in the sun all day, it will start doing it.

Take the door panel off, smack the **** out of the metal where the motor is mounted, then drench the motor inside with WD-40, where its dripping out of it.

It might make it good as new again if corrossion build-up is the problem.

If not, its just dying.

One thing to check, I was having the same problem and it ended up being a dirty window switch. I assumed it was a motor also, but good thing I cleaned the switch first.

there is an overheat switch inside our window motors when your motor overheats the switch kicks on and you can no longer roll up ur windows. after a minute or so it cools down enough to roll it up another 1/2 to 1 inch til it overheats again. both of my window motors did this. replace it it only takes bout 15 minutes and the motors are like 35. i suggest a new motor not a used or remanufactured. mine was only 35 dollars brand new and came with lifetime warranty.

Is it a simple job with no special tools required? Just bolt off the old and bolt on the new one?

No special tools and yes its a bolt in installation. However Don't expect to get your first one done in 15 minutes. An hour or two maybe. Here's a write up.

wow i dont see why it would take this long as long as you know what a window motor looks like and you can find the three pop rivets that hold it in. in that 15 minutes it took to do mine i even had to drill 3/4 holes with a hole saw in the fiberglass inner panel of the door to get to the pop rivets.

+1 - you'll want to change it out before the thermal switch deteriorates further and gets you totally stuck in a rain storm... or blizzard on a turnpike... (we won't talk about that last one any more - very painful)
