Auto or manual? Do you know how to use a voltmeter? You need to see if voltage is making it's way to the starter solenoid when turning the key-could be clutch position switch ( or auto neutral switch),starter rely,VATS module etc.By using a meter you will eliminate the guesswork or you could just start changing parts.

It has to do with the security system. Something with a theft deterrent cause the security light should be on if its the same problem as mine is having and from the video it looks to be the same. My car does it too... and it always seems to strike at the right moment... right when i need to get in the car and go, and nothing for a couple min.

I know there is a ad on here with some info on it. Ill look around in a lil and see if i can help.

In your case, I would bypass the VATS just to see if that fixes it- It's easy to do,can be undone just as easily and will help diagnose your problem.

Thank the lord I thought I was the only poor sap having this problem. Mine does EXACTLY the same thing and it has for the past year. I work for a chevrolet dealer and weve replaced the PCM, the BCM, bypassed the vats, replaced the key, turned off the fuel pump part of the theft deterrent system with hp tuners....all with no avail. I guess I'll try putting a starter on mine and see what it does. Thats awesome you got it on video, we can never get mine to act up when its in the shop lol.

My car only has 29,000 miles on it and now has this problem. Will randomly start and other times nothing. Going to pull the starter to check the wires from when I last took it off.

EDIT: Fixed the problem today. For me it ended up being the starter relay. Replaced the relay with a new one and fired right up. Just to test it I put the old one back in and wouldn't start.

how about a ignition switch man??? Mine was doing the same thing,i did some research on how it works and i narrowed it down to a ignition switch or my chip in the key.. i went with the cheaper rout and got the $20 or so ignition switch.. its been fine for the last 2k miles with no security light or anything..

Default push button start

would a push button start fix this? because the ignition engages everything except the starter so I was thinking bypass the ignition to turn the key on and use the pushbutton to engage the starter
