Default Damn Voltage issue.

When i drive my car it stays at around 13volts. Sometimes when i come to a stop after driving a while the battery gauge will dance sometimes dipping love enough to cause the check gauge light to come on. Now if i stall it up it levels back out to 13volts. Also if i am driving and its sitting at 13volts and turn my headlights on it jumps up to about 13.6 volts. I can crank the car and let it idle in the driveway for 10mins and i can put my meter on it and the battery is at 14.75 volts. The alternator is only year old with maybe 4500miles on it. Its a 160amp version. I checked the exciter wire and looked fine but i went ahead and ordered a new one from eBay it should be here today or tomorrow. I also just installed a new optima battery, and the cables are fine. Any ideas.

Had the same problem with my SS before I sold it. Turns out it is the alternator. Might have been just me, but with the Optima Redtop, my alternator just wasn't doing it's job. I found out after the car was sold, that the alternator was replaced and it ran perfect after that.

I've got the same problem with mine. I'm trying to find an alternator out of a B4C to replace it with but luck is not on my side.

Its our alternators. The AD230 cases and rectifiers suck.

You can upgrade to a 145Amp, AD244 style alternator (02-04 Tahoe, escalades...) but only the two front bolts will work. The little bracket in back wont fit.

That's what I'm planning on doing.

Not to mention that it sits under the power steering pump/reservoir which can leak onto the alternator.

Well Thursday night i replaced my exciter wire. I cranked the car and let it run in the driveway for 30mins. It stayed at 14.65 volts. I drove to the car club meeting last night which is 30-mins away and the car never really got below 13 volts except once when i come up on a stop light it went down to about 11 volts. Then when i got back going it went back to 13 volts. Here is the really weird thing. When I left I had the headlights on and fog lights and my car stayed around 13.6 volts all the way home. I am totally lost here, my ******* car has demons or something.

Do you have a UD pulley on your car?
