Default New problem...

Ok so here is the deal. My "check gauges" light came on yesterday and today. it only did it under certain circumstances though. I started from 2nd gear and slowly rolled on the throttle and as I would approach 4000-4500 RPM the light would come on. I did this a few times to try and figure out the issue. It only does it starting from 2nd, not 1st. The second time I tried it as the light turned on I saw a huge spike in engine temperature ( or at least I think I did, I cant be sure and could not replicate) but it seemed like the needle went from 180* to over 210* like nothing and then when I backed off of the throttle it went back to 180*.

As I approach 4k in any gear. I can hear almost like a rattle noise. A very fast rattle. I am guessing these are signs my Cats are just about done. The car has 120k on it. Does this sound right to you guys? If you think of other things let me know.
