Default LS1 Questions + concerns :(

My 98 z28 has been acting very goofy since about winter, the low coolant light has been on like constantly no matter how full the radiator and reservoir are. Also cold starts are backwards, when i start the car cold the idle is low like 500-650 barely running sometimes it dies, when i start it warm idle is 1000-1100 and the car pulls itself around town for 15 minutes. I have gone through the idle relearn procedure in the GM service manual with no luck or change. Do i need to have it tuned or is it a coolant temp sensor sending the wrong signal?? any suggestions Appreciated!!!!

Are you having to add any water consistently? If so your water pump may have a slow leak that is not showing up as a puddle under the car. This happened to me when I first got my Z.

pull your fluid level sensor out and clean it up. it's probably got all kinds of orange build up on it. it's a common problem on ls1's, i had it happen on mine.

no leak on the coolant, i have never been even low it just doesn't register, must be dirty like most people have suggested, is it hard to remove etc? Thanks for Replies!

I would do the cheap simple stuff to see if it helps your idle problem. Buy some MAF cleaner from the autoparts store and pull off the maf and clean it. Get some carb cleaner from the parts store while you're there as well and clean up the throttle body with it while you have the maf off. Shouldn't cost you more than $10 and is worth doing regardless.
