Default Using a little coolant

Past few days I have been adding about a cup of coolant to the radiator. Last week I installed a 160 stat so I thought the system was still burping some air out of it. But I don't think thats the case. No drips in the garage either. I have never overheated the motor either.Overflow tank is where it should be. Every now and then I can smell a little bit of antifreeze around the hood area when I walk around the car but I can't find any obvious leaks. This is my first LS1 but not my first V-8 chev. Any ideas would be great!!
