Name that tick....Please it's driving me crazy
It's been getting worse and worse week by week I can't seem to place where its coming from, just around to top of the motor. it's not an exhaust leak and using the good old screwdriver to ear trick it doesn't seem to be come from there. took covers off, found no broken springs. Car dose have heads and MS4 cam and runs fairly well i guess. I also checked compression, averaged around 216.
Things that have been suggested to me.
-connecting rods
-the 42lb Holley injectors tapping
-pushrods to short
-lifter(s)
I'm not sure at all, anyone got a clue?

It could be the lifters close to that. Have your tried putting marvelous mystery oil or anything like that? Also heard if your injectors are dirty or slightly clogged they would cause a tick.

Only thing I've done oil wise is I change to a thicker oil, I was burning 1 3/4quarts of oil every oil change, also a mystery with my car. Maybe all run some fuel injector cleaner through it. I just swap to a racitronix pump so the fuel filter is new, pressure is a steady 64lb at idle. Though it had the tick before all that just not as bad.

I went over them with the torque wrench when I took off the covers. They were all at 24lbft. If thats what you mean by adjustment. And like I said using a screw driver as a stethoscopes on the valve covers, the ticking doesn't seem to be coming from there.

Totally sounds like a stuck lifter. My '98 z28 did that for about a month, didn't have the money to take apart and fix it....wish I had tho. After that time it finally seized in its cylinder and snapped the pushrod. Dirt and such can get in the lifter and cause the hydraulic roller not to retract, resulting in the noise. If thats the case, try some Seafoam. Didn't work for me, as I think the spring in the lifter actually broke. Ended up finding a bunch of pieces of metal and little ball-bearings in my oil pan. Get it fixed man before you f*ck up your cam and/or the valvetrain. Fortunately for me it gave me a reason to cam my car

Oh and btw, you should be able to tell which bank has the f'd up lifter in it just by the sound. So if you want to just replace the one, by all means. But if they're original, just pick up a whole set of LS7 lifter for about 130$ and not have to worry about the rest going bad on you.
