Default high beam switch

how do you change it?

is it accessible through the console? the highbeams WORK, but they won't stay switched on. if i hold the lever in, they stay on, but the switch just won't fully "switch"

what are the wires that operate it? i could always just rig a remote switch...i honestly use my highbeams a handfull of times a year.

The switch is inexpensive - probably about $20.

The switch is cheap. Go to O'reilley's. It's located on the bottom of the steering column under the dash facing down. If it's not the switch it's probably the rod that connects it to the steering wheel. It's probably bent if that is the case.

shweet...

appreciate the help.

the switch has slowly been going out. last year you had to pull on it at just the right angle or it would work. then all of a sudden...it never works. i can flash the highbeams, just not get them to stay on.

teke: This switch is on a slotted mount. You can probably adjust it toward the steering wheel slightly to get it working for free.

so where is the switch located again?

i tried to get into the "base" of the lever but could only get one small plastic cap off of it. not enough to get inside and check things out.

is there a switch located farther back? up under the dash more?

pics would be awesome!!

It's in the same spot as the ignition switch on the steering column. The ignition switch is on top, the high beam switch is below it. Pull off the knee bolster and look up there, you'll see it.

Here's a pic of it, although in my experience it's located lower down the column and on the underside.

THANKS GUYS!!

you rock.

was a pain in the *** to get to. had to unbolt the bracket holding the column up, then unbolt the base of the column from the firewall. that allowed me enough room to enter through the top (by the steering wheel) and adjust it.

in playing with it i did find one thing strange.

if you tilted the steering wheel all the way up...the switch worked fine. but tilted down 1/2 way or more and it didn't work any more.

Sounds like we have the same problem, I think it's the connecting rod, it's slightly bent or something.

Can't you adjust that switch a little? If I recall correctly, the bracket is slotted slightly so you can loosen and slide towards steering wheel and retighten.
