Default Driver window is Bustn my Chops!

1998 Trans Am; original owner; do most of the work on her for 12 years; my dd; 94K miles

The driver window only goes down about 1 inch every 15 mins. Everything else is fine: Radio, passenger window, etc. This has been going on for a year because I have been really busy.

I already did all of the following earlier this evening:

1. BCM trickeration. BCM looked great, but did it anyway. Nothing!
2. Window express down module (auto-down module). This looked great! Pulled it out and put it back in. Same results.

My brother has a 2002 WS6 and does the same EXACT thing!

Think its the motor and/or regulator? Neither have ever been replaced.

Thanks.

A '98 with original window motor is way over due for replacement. Going through other topics, it seems that a "new" Doorman is the best replacement. My drivers window motor still needs replaced as well but my window not working saves me money from going to the drive thru lol.

Good luck.

it is more than likely your motor, you can get a brand new gm motor online for under $50. at least it was back in august when i did mine. i am sure these dorman motors are ok, but if the stock one lasted this long hmmm cant be too bad.

You sound like me, I had my 1998 WS6 since new too. I changed both door motors about 5 years ago because one started moving slowly. Just two days ago my drivers side started acting up again.

Time to go to Advance Auto and cash in on the lifetime warranty I got 5 years ago and put in the new motor.

Auto glass shops around here charge about $20.00-$25.00 per side to do it all.

edit: Holy ****......just been calling around because I need my driver door done this week. **** has gone UP. Cheapest I found now is $85.00 for the one door, just for the labor.

kdoublep,
Post up after you do it and let me know how hard it was.

You gonna use rivets or nuts/bolts to hold it in?

.

This is the classic thermal resistor failure in the motor. Be sure to get a new Doorman motor when you go to the parts store - the reman ones won't last you long!

I found motor on GM Parts Direct for about $25. Not sure if right part. Waiting on confirmation.

Write up says bolts and threadlock. Was gonna go that route. Wont get to it for about a week. Will let you know.

Thanks for your replies.

Just finished the install on two trans ams (1998 and 2002). Used the Dorman from Summit. Only $38 plus shipping. Pretty easy install compared to other projects on these cars.

Thanks for the advice!

I love Summit - but you can get the Doorman at your local parts store with a lifetime warranty. May be more convenient for you.

Probably more convenient, but my local Autozone wanted $58. Summit was only $39 plus $5 shipping. Not bad.
