Default Blown head gasket, any other upgrades or maintence work I can do?

I have a blown head gasket and was wondering if there was any other work I can on the car since I would be spending quite a bit of money already to get this fixed. I don't have the ls1 I have the 3800 engine.

It's going to cost 450ish to get the heads checked out by the machine shop, how much are new heads?

450 to get the heads checked? You pay that and you better have your head checked.

So the cost is to make sure there are no cracks and to have them resurfaced. Does 450 not seem reasonable?

$450 sounds reasonable to get them completely rebuilt.

Yeah for real you better not pay $450 just for the shop to "check" them. More like $50-$100 max at most shops.

paid a couple hundred to get a set checked and plained don't know where they came up with $450 to get them checked. even if you go with a used set i would still have them checked before going through the work of putting them on.

when i brought my ls6 heads off the ls1tech classifieds, i brought them to the machine shop to get checked out before i put them on my car. I payed either $200 or $300 to have them pressure checked, have the deck milled, and degreased.

Dude, you could ship them down here to south Florida to one of the best head shops in the country and get them completely rebuilt for $450 including shipping. Just checking them is $100.00....MAXIMUM.

You are getting hosed! To pressure check and resurface should run you about $125 to $150.
