Power Steering Fluid is Creamy Pink Okay, my power steering fluid is a creamy pink color. I have drained it and it still reverts back to creamy pink. My brother seems to think it is the power steering pump cooler allowing water into the power steering pump. Anyone ever heard of this problem? My car is a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am 5.7L.

Click that link and scroll to my last post. Do that if you have about $40, 30 minutes and a philips screwdriver and a razor. Your PS pump will last longer if you have a cooler on there and no more worries of getting coolant into your PS fluid, or PS fluid into your coolant....which you probably have some in there and will need to flush your coolant after doing this mod. The fluid will slowly eat your seals and rubber hoses. They ate mine away and my tranny cooler ports on my passengers side plastic tank of my radiator started leaking coolant about 1 year after I did this mod, even after flushing it. The damage is really already done if you have PS fluid in your coolant.
The line coming out the bottom of the reservoir doesn't need to be changed, I just did it. If yours is fine, then just don't buy the 3/8" heater hose.

Seems like I read about this issue every day lately. Makes me want to ditch the cooler on my '02 even though it's not leaking....yet.
A PS cooler isn't really needed unless you put the system under a lot of stress (any sort of racing with lots of high rpm/high speed steering). But, if you do want a cooler, set something up like the link posted above. That is MUCH better than the factory design. MUCH better.

to test for PS cooler leak:
get free loaner cooling system pressure tester from Autozone.
put it on the radiator and pressurize cooling system.
look for bubbles in the PS resevoir.

I have a 2001 Z28 with the same p/s problem. that is what brought me to the forum in the first place. to fix it i got a remote p/s cooler kit from O'reilys for $20. looks like a minnie tranny cooler. they did not have a top rad hose so i got noe for a 01' vet for $16 and it works fine. Problem solved. hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

Check LS6427 link in his thread - it is what I used this month as my template and it is absolutely the ideal resolution with a great writeup for coolant flushing! This cooler mod was preventative maint for me, luckily. Def sticky worthy, a must do!
