what part number do i need (coolant temp sensor)

Default what part number do i need (coolant temp sensor)

i just went to autozone to pick up a coolant temp sensor and i think i got the wrong part. my stock sensor on the side of the block is 3 wire and the one i got is 2... what gives. if im not mistaken there is another sensor by the waterpump. did i get that sensor... im so confused lol

after some more research i have found that 98's have the 3 wire... my problem is i cant find a part number for that all i can find at the normal auto part stores is the 2 wire...HELP!!

Try, Duralast TU178 from AutoZone, or have the parts guy look up the sensor from a v6. See if that matches and post back.

I show the GM part number being 12551708 and goes in the left cylinder head on the exhaust manifold side but towards the front.

I think thats the V6 one, isn't the LS1 temp sensor a 2 pin? Is this sensor you want in the drivers side cylinder head?

i don't know if I can see it, but I will look on my 98 Z28 tonight when I get home from work to see if its a 3 or 2 pin

thanks guys it is a 3 pin that i need. i dont know y those idiots at autozone cant find it. thats the one i need on the autozone website

yeah the 98's are different. i picked mine up from scoggin dickey parts center locally. any dealership should be able to get you the part

after i fixed the sensor my car gained about 20whp

Yeah the 98s are a different part number, maybe because the temp gauge actually works in the 98s, thats why the 98 is a 3 wire instead of a 2 wire and dummy gauge for the 99s-up. I think the GM part number for the 98s is 12551708 and 99-up is 12608814

again thanks. that gm part number was dead on. it was a little high at chevy but i was tired of searching for the damn thing
