Default A little help with a couple issues.

Hi guys. I've been browsing the forum for a bit, and just recently became the new owner of a '97 Trans Am.

I know this forum is based more on the LS1 cars rather than LT1's, but I was hoping you guys might be able to help with a couple things.

I have two problems I'd like to fix on my car:

1. The fuel gauge doesn't seem to be working properly. It moves, but it's way off. I filled it up, and the gauge moved to show it had just under a 1/4 of a tank.

2. Cruise control doesn't work.

I was wondering if you could point me to some possible fixes for these two items. I'm afraid the problem with the fuel gauge is the sending unit in the tank, but I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

Thanks!

I agree, your sending unit is probably bad.

Have you checked your fuses for the cruise issue?

I'm going to double-check the fuses this afternoon.

As far as the sending unit goes. Any tips/advice on the easiest way to take care of it?

Only 2 choices here, pull the gas tank or cut a hole in the floor of the trunk.

This problem is usually the sending unit, but it could also be the gauge. I would check the unit to see if it's sending a proper signal before I pull it apart.

Don't know if this will work with your car...but on an old thunderbird I had I took a rubber mallet and pounded on the fuel tank.. it caused it to moved to a normal position....I think there was a piece of something stoping it from working right.....

This is for a '95 but might be of some help to test the sender/gauge:

Wow. There's a lot of good info there all in one place. Most of those procedures should also apply to LS1.

Yeah, basically the same design. The connector/wire colors/OHM readings might be a little different - if anyone needs them I'll look them up in my helms and post.

Wow! Thank you for the information guys. This has been very helpful so far.

I'll try to do some testing with the guage, and find the solution. May try the rubber mallet technique first as well.

You guys happen to have any more resources for the cruise control? I checked the fuses, and they look new. I could still replace them to be sure, but I don't really think they're the issue.

Thanks!
