cricket in my engine bay! video inside
Ok... so I've had this problem since I bought the car when it had 36,xxx miles on the clock back in 2008. The car just got to 47,000 miles now in 2010.
About not even a week after when I first bought the car the problem started.
The problem in question is a noise coming from the front of the engine. I have isolated the noise to the front passenger side of the block. The noise sounds like a huge cricket on steroids chirping. I can hear it over my exhaust while driving inside the car and lately it seems to have gotten louder and happens everytime the car is driven.
Letting the car get to temp does not help at all. I've replaced both the ac and main drive belt along with the belt tensioner and it did not make any difference at all. I am worried that it could be the bearings in my water pump going bad but I am not 100% sure.
This post is a call out to anyone that has experienced a problem similar to this that fits the criteria mentioned above (noise from front passenger side of block) and if they ever figured out what was going on.

You will need to get a stethoscope to help isolate the noise.
what kind of belt did you install? (brandname)
my guess could be
1. A/C tensioner with pulley
2. A/C pulley
3. A/C compressor
4. A/C belt (I know you stated you replaced it check it again)
remove the MAIN engine belt, start the engine get under the car and inspect the A/C belt drive system with a stethoscope.

you can use a screw driver too....just put it up to each object on the engine you might suspect and see if you hear it more....most likely something stupid...nothing with the engine, probably AC lol good luck!

I know this is a old *** thread of mine but I just wanted to report that the noise mysteriously went away on its own about 4 months ago after doing nothing to it and has never come back since! gotta love it when cars fix themselves lol!
