Default Low Engine Power Light

So i was coming from work today in my 1999 Firebird and as i entered my neighborhood the "Low Eninge Power light" came on. Suddenly well as the light says, i lost power and regardless how hard i push the gas pedal, there was no response from the engine and the car wouldn't increase speed at all. I wanted to get some help as to what needs to be changed in-order to solve this problem. Thank you for all the help ahead of time.

Do you refering to "reduced power mode" ?.
To narrow the rootcause you need to scan your car to find what faultcode is stored in the computer.

Is it an automatic? I'm not sure about firebirds but I know when my trans went on my 04 silverado doing some research i found that there was a safety setting that would put the transmission into a lower power mode "gimp mode" where u couldn't go over like 20 to ensure you got home and limit additional damage done to it, like I said not sure if it applies in this case but just something I dug up on the web regarding a GM. Sorry if wasn't any help but regardless I'd get it on a scanner asap to give you an idea good luck
