Default Leaking Oil Near the Pan!!!!

Hey guys, Ive got a slow leak coming from the passenger side of the oil pan. It leaks down behind the plastic shield beside the starter then drips off the bottom of the pan. It doesn't leak as bad when the front of the car is up in the air. When the car sits overnight it usually leaves a dime size spot on the carport slab. Anybody got any ideas or know where to start?

I had planned on pulling the trans anyway to have the internals freshened up so I guess that works out good. Thanks for the help.

Rear main seal leak?

Both of my brothers F-bodies have the same leak.

Clean the area with brake cleaner so you can see where the leak is coming from. There appears to be oil above the sensor. Possibly your dipstick tube is not seated all the way?

Similar leak on mine, I found the bolts from the pan into the rear cover (not into the block) needed to be torqued down by quite a bit (had not been touched since new).

It might not be the same situation for you but i had the same problem with my ls1, i checked everything major to start with but come to find out there is a oil bypass valve that is held on the side of the oil pan on the passenger side with 2 10mm bolts. It was a 4 dollar gasket fix from gm dealer..

Well the good thing is when you buy a new rear main seal you get a new cover seal also BUT.... be very careful not to over tighten your bolts that go through the pan into the cover. I pulled my tranny got it rebuilt and replaced rear main and cover gasket but stripped my cover bolt threads installed tranny drove around to let it warm up. Had a bad leak. So I had to pull the tranny again the next day again and buy a new rear cover.put a little grunt into tightening them but not too much. Reinstalled tranny again and no leaks.
