Default High idle that comes and goes, any advice will help!

sorry its quite a bit to read but basically the car idles high in neutral around 1500rpm and it comes and goes every time I start the car. The engine does not feel like its losing power at all either. Mods are cam only 228r with tune and full exhaust, tranny is m6.

About three days ago my car started giving me a strange problem. It first happened when I started my car late in the afternoon. After pushing the clutch and starting the car the rpm jumped up like it normally does when you first start an engine but the rpm began consistently hovering around 1500rpm with ac turned off. The car started right up without a problem and began doing this. with the ac turned on the rpm is slightly higher around 1650rpm.

Now the real odd part. I started the car again later that night and fired up and acted completely normal like nothing ever happened. I have no idea why it would do this.

When I went to start it for the 2nd time the following day it started doing the high idle once again around the same rpm acting the same strange way as before. I even experimented and shut it off at a red light and then restarted the car and it acted normal once again like nothing was wrong.

maybe a vacuum leak..

I'd take it to your tuner to make sure it isn't the PCM.

Darn of course that IAC valve is pricey. There are a few different ones on rock auto, is there a particular one I should go with? the acdelco one costs $106 while another one by the brand airtex/wells goes for only $67.

Well, its not a vacuum leak or it would never go away till it was fixed.

IAC valves act up all the time periodically, thats probably what it was. Or a sticking TB that wasn't closing all the way when you came off the pedal.

It could be IAC or a throttle position sensor..get a TECH II plugged into it and see what kin dof codes you are throwing.
