i think i have determined my oil leak is coming from the back of the block around where the trans meets the block, about 1.5 quarts every oil change. did a search couldnt find anything exactly the same. what could this be?

sounds like you just described the rear main seal as the problem which is a pretty common problem with these cars. You will have to pull the trans to fix it.

Probably damaged it during a clutch swap. Like said, if it is not hindering the performance of the motor, then you can wait, but if you cant. Pull the trans, make sure the freeze plug in the crank is not pushed into the engine and get the proper tool to fix the seal.
