Head bolt broken in block, recommendations please!
So long story short, I must not have gotten all the coolant out of the bolt hole, hydrolocked the bolt and snapped it off right after where the threads start. I tried drilling it but the drill won't go dead center and I don't want to drill the threads. And because of the lag on the bolt it's about 1.5-2" down so it's not easily accessible. Keep in mind the block is still in the car.
I had a friend recommend some tool of GM's called a time cert? Don't think I got the name right. Anyways any ideas would help. Thanks

Get the time cert tool then do your drilling with its guide plate, then install a time sert. Don't mess with it until you have some type of drill guide.

you need a quikcenter set. I swear its the greatest tool ever invented for broken bolts. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a set or two. How it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbDF9...2D9F1&index=17

Have you tried using an auto. center punch to start a dent in the bolt? If you don't have a guide that works well. I work on chryslers, breaking bolts is par for the course. You may not have access to one but we use a local welding company that has a mobile truck that does automotive stuff and can get bolts out of heads, blocks, exhaust, etc. even if its a head bolt recessed below the deck of the block a little. Even on an alum. block such as yours. He just taps the welder and builds slag I guess on top of the bolt till he gets it far enough out of the hole to tack a nut on it and uses a wrench and socket to unscrew it. Just my $.02 though.

Well got an extractor stuck trying to get the bolt out lol **** it now. I'm buying a DD this weekend and tearing the entire car apart. Engine is ready to be pulled and taken to a machine shop. Exhaust is off (if anyone want to buy a Borla lol) rearend is coming out and some other stuff. So I'm either going to spend the money to rebuild my LS1 or build the 408 LQ9 block I have sitting in the garage.
But thanks for all the ideas and help. I'll know what to do better if this ever happens again.
