Default Oil Leak... Possible rear main seal

Ok my 01 WS6 currently has 106K on the clock. I have an annoying leak coming from between the rear of the block and the Tranny bell housing. It is oil leaking out, not tranny fluid. So my first guess due to age, mileage, leak location... is the rear main seal is going on it. I'm i right or could it something else. Jus want a few peoples opinion on this to confirm thats what the problem is. Thanks

Check the torque on the bolts from the pan into the rear cover (should be 106 inch/lbs), that fixed my leak that was at the same place.

Yeah no need to drop the trans. I actually couldn't reach it from the bottom of the car, even with the trans out. You can see it from the top with a flashlight and a small mirror. Theres a special socket to remove it. The plastic is kinda brittle so be careful not to break it (broken mine trying to use a regular wrench on it) if it is the cause of your leak.

What would it be if it is leaking on both sides? I too have a leak and have been meaning to pull the intake manifold and valve covers to look. And also just to replace the gaskets.

Mine was leaking where the rear cover and oil pan meet up on the left and right of the block, I couldn't verify it until I pulled the trans.
BTW, I pulled the intake first to see if pulling the trans was necessary.

On mine, if I get under the car, I can see where the oil is coming from, but not the actual source of the leak. I see the trail of oil on the drivers side of the block leading up towards where I can't see anymore. I suspect my problem is at the back of the engine on top. When I pulled the spark plugs nearest to the firewall, the threads has a little oil on them.

Yeah, i also subscribed to see what it was as i was having the same issue. I changed my knock sensors and the oil pressure sending unit. To my disappointment, it was not my OPSU leaking. Pretty sure it's the rear main $$$eal!

A4 or M6? I had an issue just like this, thought for sure it was the rear main seal. It ended up being the clutch slave cylinder. Food for thought.

i have the same issue, I plan on getting under the car today. I started a new thread asking about this. I had the car at an exhaust shop and the guy there told me that he thinks it is the sending unit. My only problem is that the previous owner had to have seen this and did nothing. I have to clean the underside of the car first then look for it. I will post what I find.

Can this be verified with the trans in place? I have an A4.
