Ok my car quit charging today. I just assumed the alternator so i take it off which it was a new one from advance auto so i took it off and found what i thought to be a loose wire but ended up being a spinning stud in it so after i broke the end off the hot wire going to it. I took it to advance and exchanged it and bought a new end for the wire. after i put the new alternator and end on and started the car its still the same ol ****. not charging at alll its throwing the P1637 code and a P0650 code. I checked every wire to see if they were tight. Every fuse. I just don't know as to what else it could be. Is it possible i just got another bad alternator.

ok i figured it out i had a short in the red wire going into the alternator does anyone know where to get that plug in. i could wiggle it and the lights would brighten and dim and then it broke.

would any other gm car have that same plug in. I've got a 93 and a 82 Trans Am for parts if one of thems the same. I've also got an old cavalier sittin around.

I would look in the boneyard for any GM of late 90's to early 2000s vintage and make sure the plug looks like yours. Chop and buy, or go the Ebay route like LS6427 suggested. Mine came from a 98 6-cylinder Camaro. I can't imagine that GM had a wide variety of alternator plugs back then.

I went to a junkyard and bought 8 of them but it turns out it wasn't my problem after all. While my car was down i wired up the light in my aftermarket volt gauge wrong and it was hooked to the wire for the alternator there for grounding it out inside the gauge. i just unhooked the gauge and all is fine. now i need to take it back apart and figure out what i screwed up with the light. And for anybody else that ends up needing a plug in. 4.3 blazers have the same plug in and the wire seems to be stiffer so it'd be less likely to break. thanks
