Default Lound banging noise from under rear of car during acceleration?

Hey guys,

Just wondering what this could be. When I added the three inch y pipe I had enormous bangin' y pipe syndrome lol, so I got my buddy (who did the exhaust) to fix me up. He also adjusted the catback (loosened it at the rear I think). This all happened last fall, now I have the car out again and I'm getting the same sound (or very close to it) but now it is coming from the back? Multiple bangs only under HARD acceleration. If the tires break loose, no noise. It seems to go along with the same conditions that would cause wheel hop (not enought to break loose, but not hooking quite either). Any ideas guys would be welcome. I don't think it is rear diff, but maybe?

Well I checked that last year because the rear felt floaty, seemed fine. The more I think of it the more I am thinking catback. It seems to have some "sway" to it now, ever since we dropped the engine (my buddy cut the one piece stainless dual/dual exhaust-dipshit!) and ever since that it's been happening. I'll take your advice though and have both the hangers and the t/a checked. Thanks a bunch folks for your tips, and to put up a pic is above and beyond.

When exactly is it that you here the bang? Is it when the trans shifts? Or is it a constant bang?

I was gonna say that as well. I was getting a bang when launching and at shifts. Turned out to be motor mounts and trans mount.

Only under HARD acceleration. Buddy thinks that since the cam the engine is torquing pretty hard in the mid range now and adding to the exhaust flex. Might need some poly mounts perhaps. We're putting her up on the lift this thursday and starting at sqare one. Torque arm, mounts, and catback will all be checked before the rear cover comes off. Would the trans mounts not cause an issue on shifts also though? Because my shifts are smooth as butter, even under wot. Thanks guys.

The banging that I was hearing was only under hard wot also. If I was you I would pop the hood, start car, have buddy brake the car, and give a little throtle from under hood and watch the engine. Mine damn near wanted to torque itself to the passenger side of the car. So I replaced engine mounts with poly ones.

I have the stock panhard from slp (Hawk equipment), could this be the culprit? I'll find out today I'll check out the u-joints too.

Yup, it was the catback hitting the heatshield All better now and going to throw some nice dual/dual tips on there while I'm at it, since the stock dual/duals aren't extended enough for my liking. Thanks guys for tips

Mine makes a loud bang as well but only when it goes to 2nd gear (it shifts hard) and only that gear at a mid trottle wot not as bad. Im am wondering if it is hitting the bump stops for the rear axle. Another time is if I have it in D or Rev gear and sitting on the foot brake the exhaust startes hitting the floor board, need to add a hanger.

Update: found that my rear springs are a little weak and allowing contact with the bump stops as well. Getting rid of each noise, one by one

I know this is a lil old but i fixed some stuff. Motor mounts, trans mount, TQ(fixed the hard shift to 2nd),weak rear springs, exhaust hitting floor pan, pan bar mount where it mounts on to the axle was cracked
