Default lt4 Wont stay running ?? STUMPED !

To say the least I am fed up !

1996 Z28 built lt4 6 speed

A week ago I replaced to opti , put everything back together and in the right order . And now I go to start the car , it wont start without the gas pedal being touched . I have to give it gas to start it , and have to keep it above 2,000 rpms , once I bring it down below 2,00 rpm's it wants to die and you can feel and hear a jerking noise . Sometimes back fires ? I know all the spark plugs are in the right order and the opti is set right in the dowell pin .

I am still getting spark and fuel . It did not do this before hand .

The reason I replaced the opti is because I was driving it and the car backfired and died , tried cranking it several times , I had spark and fuel and air . Just would not start , ( this is after the hurricane ) I maybe drove it 10 miles and then this happened. So I replaced it and now it wont stay running .

I hear about VAST Systems , but would this cause this after I replaced the opti ? I am lost and I am trying to sell this car and need help so it will stay running ! I greatly would apprecaite it !

First off the gas pedal doesn't do anything when starting the car unless it's at WOT. If you think it's the VATS then check to see if the security light is flashing when you go to start it. If it is the VATS a new key from the dealer might fix it, but you will probably have to bypass it or tune it out.

My car has done what you are describing though. For me it was the coil, alternator, battery, and opti all going bad at once. Since you changed the opti I would recommend checking alternator and battery voltages.

Since the tune the security light has stayed on, never has caused problems. The battery does need jumped to start it .

With a bad battery or alt would it cause it to jerk and backfire like that ?

Could you have water in the gasoline? Maybe try some "dry gas" if you think that may be a problem.I know we got ALOT of rain in O.C..
