Default Help with button window overlay piece installation!

So the plastic piece that overlays the buttons to control the window, lock, and side mirror stick recently popped out of place. It broke somehow, so I went out and bought a whole new piece with the clips for $30. I just got it in today and removed the old piece. Only problem is, I can't figure out how to remove the lock button from it, and the side mirror stick from that overlay piece! I included pictures.

Unfortunately, once I do remove it...I'm not sure how to put them back in, or put in the new clips I received and make it all lock into place. I included pictures of what I am dealing with. All assistance is appreciated, thank you.

Well I just popped the lock button out of place. And the clips go into the side of the bezel in the little grooves

I can't pop it out! I'm pushing with all my might while trying not to break it.

Did you get the side mirror stick to come out too? How?

Look at the pics in this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...im-repair.html

There are raised plastic bars inside the cavity that "grab" the switches. You need to get a flat head screw driver in there to pry the sides away from the switch before it will come out.

Never mind guys. I spent about 10 minutes dinking with it and figured it out, not complicated at all. Got it installed too, fits great. The only problem now is that this piece is gray, the rest of my car's plastic is black. Any idea how I can paint this and make it match?

You got the wrong part. '98 and '99 had grey interiors and '00-'02 had black ones.

The correct 8 digit P/N should be embossed in the back of your old black plastic piece.

Well I already ordered it, for $30. Not buying another one since it's in there.

When ordering it, it did say only 98 and 99 camaro's. But there weren't any selling the ones for the '00-'02 Camaros.

Any idea where I can get paint for this?

Paint will look even worse, and wear off over time. Either buy the right color piece or live with it.

No need to be rude about it. If you read my above post you will know that I already searched for it, and have been unable to find one in black. Thanks for useless input.

Classic Industries has the black plates. They should also be able to set you up with a black paint that will match your interior. For some parts, they only sell one color and you have to paint parts.

Where did you order it from? I got mine from GMPartsDirect.com and they asked for the VIN to make sure it was the right color. It was about the same price. Maybe you send it back for a refund and buy the right color?

Whatever you do, DON'T paint it! It WILL look awful and you WILL HATE IT when it chips and/or fades.
