Default broke bolt off at factory torque spec new torque?

i was installing a transmission mount in my 02 M6. i was finishing up and installuniversity said to torque the mount bolt to 77 foot pounds. well the bolt broke right in two right before my torque wrench clicked.

i have another bolt that came with the kit. should i try it at 77 pounds again, or should i do it at say 50 foot pounds to be safe? the kit in question is pictured below:

take it to autozone, they can get the right one for you, there is also a board you screw your bolt in to and it will tell you the thread p/inch and pitch... does the bolt youre using have slash marks on the head? it should either be a grade 5 (3 marks) or grade 8... (6 marks)... im assuming you had a 1/2" grade 5 bolt so it was only good to 75lbs.. get a grade 8 bolt, drop it in oil for a second then put it in... there is a difference between putting in a dry bolt and a wet one...

bolt was the wrong word for me to use. it's the all-thread looking thing in the picture on post 1. it doesn't have a head, just a nut to tighten.

i dont know where you would get one of those. to you feel comfortable getting a bolt and cutting off the head? its fairly easy to do if you have a bench grinder...

ya, i can do that. i guess i'll get one that is a little too long and go from there.

i'm starting to think that the bolt i used torqued to 50 pounds with a lock washer might be ok for now.
